This role is designed for individuals who have worked in official capacities—such as cultural exchange programs, diplomatic missions, arts institutions, or government agencies—bridging cultural understanding between the United States and Japan.
You will leverage your unique cross-cultural expertise and institutional knowledge to help train cutting-edge AI models on the nuances of Japanese-American relations, cultural diplomacy, and bilateral understanding.
Role Responsibilities
- Cross-Cultural Content Development: Analyze and synthesize complex cultural dynamics, institutional practices, and diplomatic conventions that shape Japanese-American relations.
- Bilingual Expertise: Write fluently in both Japanese and English, capturing subtle cultural differences, diplomatic language, and institutional terminology across both contexts.
- Domain Knowledge: Provide insights into cultural exchange programs, diplomatic protocols, arts and cultural institutions, business practices, and the historical and contemporary relationship between the US and Japan.
- Contextual Analysis: Identify cultural assumptions, communication styles, and institutional norms that differ between American and Japanese contexts.
- Collaboration: Work closely with reviewers and peers to refine content and ensure authentic representation of both cultures.
Ideal Candidates Should Have
- Language Skills: Native or near-native fluency in both Japanese and English.
- Professional Experience: 3–8+ years working in an official capacity related to Japanese-American relations, such as:
- Cultural attaché or diplomatic staff at embassies/consulates
- Cultural exchange program coordinators (Fulbright, JET Programme, etc.)
- Arts and cultural institution leadership (museums, cultural centers, foundations)
- Government or NGO roles focused on US-Japan relations
- International business or trade positions requiring deep cultural knowledge
- Education: Advanced degree in International Relations, East Asian Studies, Cultural Studies, Arts Administration, or related field preferred.
- Cultural Fluency: Deep understanding of both American and Japanese social norms, communication styles, workplace cultures, and institutional practices.
Nice to Haves
- Experience living and working professionally in both the United States and Japan.
- Knowledge of specific cultural programs (Japan Foundation, US-Japan Foundation, etc.).
- Background in cultural diplomacy, public diplomacy, or soft power initiatives.
- Experience with cross-cultural training or intercultural communication.
- Familiarity with generative AI models or machine learning concepts is a bonus, but not required.
More Details About This Role
- This is a remote and asynchronous role — work on your own schedule.
- Expect to contribute at least 20 hours per week.
- Expect a commitment of around 2 months.
- You'll be working in a structured project environment with clear goals and tools.

- After that, you'll receive feedback and be onboarded to the project.
